Boom Rock Dogs

The Farm

Boom Rock Dogs is located in Ohariu Valley and although it's just 10 minutes from Johnsonville it seems a world away from the city.

With 25 acres of fully fenced farmland to explore, your dog can enjoy a day off leash, soaking up the sights and sounds of the countryside.

Our fences are constructed from cattle-grade mesh and are 1.7m high around the entire property.

Your dog will spend the day exploring the farm and playing in groups of 10 with an experienced dog handler. Our maximum number of dogs is 30 per day.

We operate whatever the weather. We have raincoats for all of our dogs, or you can provide your own. We'll clean your dog in dog wash-house and towel dry them before they come home after their adventure.

Getting there and back

We pick up Lower Hutt dogs from Taita to Eastbourne, including Petone and the Western hills.

We collect Wellington dogs from Northern Wellington from Churton Park to Karori, and the inner city from Roseneath across to Kelburn (including Brooklyn). We are also collect from Hataitai / Rongotai / Miramar / Seatoun twice a week.

If you live outside of our coverage area, please get in touch - we may be able to find a solution for you.

We’re open Monday to Friday. We’ll collect your dog from your home, garden or workplace between 8am - 10am and return them between 3pm – 5pm. If you're going to be away when we come to collect or drop your dog off, we can easily make access arrangements.

Our van is custom fitted with cages, and with a raised floor your dog can take in the view while we pick up their buddies and drive through the countryside.

Sorry but you're not unable to drop off and pick up your dog from Boom Rock Dogs. It's on a small country road and we need to minimise traffic as part of our consent. However you're most welcome to arrange a time to come a take a look around. Just give us a call.

Prices, invoices & cancellations

It costs $49 per day, which includes our pick up and drop home service. As standard we offer a 10% discount for dogs attending 3+ days per week.

Monthly worming treatments are additional and vary based on the size of your dog.

We invoice at the end of each month, and are terms of payment are within 7 days of the invoice, with all collection costs recoverable.

Please let us know if you are going away or your dog is unable to attend. We have a waitlist of casual dogs that would love to have the odd day on the farm. We require 24 hours minimum notice of a cancellation - otherwise the session will be included on your invoice.

Breed and behaviour

Basically if you can take your dog to a family BBQ or to socialise at the beach or dog park then they're ideal for Boom Rock Dogs.

Your dog will need to be social (they will be sharing a cage in the dog van), and have basic obedience skills such as sit and come. We take a range of sizes from Huskies down to toy breeds and encourage (and expect) them all to mix with safe, social play.

We don't take Pitbulls, Mastiffs, full Staffies, Rotweillers or any fighting breeds. Aggressive or dominant dogs are unfortunately not suited to Boom Rock Dogs. Due to noise restrictions, dogs who bark persistently may not be able to attend.

We have limited availability for large dogs over 35kgs.

Male dogs aged over 8 months must be neutered, and un-speyed females kept at home while on heat.

All dogs must be vaccinated for Parvo, Distemper, Hepatitis and Kennel Cough. If your dog is receiving a long term vaccination such as DHP, please note you will still need an annual booster shot for Kennel Cough. Your dog should also be flea-treated regularly, and should ideally be registered with your local council.

Because we operate in a rural area we have some special requirements around the worming of all the dogs that come to Boom Rock Dogs. Dogs can carry a tapeworm that can infect sheep causing them to produce unsaleable inferior meat and resulting in the stock needing to be destroyed. This can be devastating for rural communities.

Your dog will need to be wormed by us 48 hours before coming to Boom Rock Dogs for the first time. We'll arrange a time that suits to come to see you and your dog when you book.

For more information on worming see the 'Ovis' tab.

To book a Boom Rock Dogs adventure for your dog ......

It's really simple. Just give us a call, or send us a text or email. We'll chat about your dogs requirements and arrange a time to catch up to get your dog booked in.

You can book regular days each week, or casually as required (dependant on availability).

Remember, you'll need to allow 48 hours before your dogs first visit so we can worm treat them before they start.
